A good pillow is essential to ensure a restful and restful sleep. It is responsible for aligning your head with your spine and ensuring that your back rests properly. For this reason, even if you have a very good quality mattress, if the pillow does not adapt to your needs, you will not be able to rest fully.
Today we show you in this post two materials for pillow filling: micro-gel and polyester, and the characteristics of each one so that you can choose the ideal one for you.
Micro-gel pillows
Micro-gel is a synthetic material whose main characteristic is its down-like look and feel, which provides a feeling of comfort and lightness.
Micro-gel microfibres are 10 times thinner than a human hair, which provides a silk-like feel, as well as firmness, freshness, great adaptability and comfort, among other advantages.
Characteristics of the micro-gel
- Stability and firmness to provide the necessary support for the spine and head.
- Adaptation and flexibility of the padding to movement and posture during sleep, allowing it to quickly return to its original shape.
- Ergonomic design, which allows the pillow to adapt to the weight and shape of the head, preventing pressure on the neck and maintaining a proper position of the head and spine.
- Its high degree of strength prevents it from caking or changing its shape easily, so it lasts longer.
- Moisture resistant and easy to maintain, as it can be machine washed without warping.
- Facilitates ventilation and airflow through the pillow, which allows a comfortable temperature to be maintained throughout the night and makes it ideal for warm seasons.
- It is a hypoallergenic material that does not accumulate dust, bacteria or mites and does not cause irritation.
Polyester pillows
Polyester is the most widely used synthetic fibre and is made from the polymerisation of styrene and other chemicals.
Characteristics of polyester
- It is a material that withstands high temperatures very well.
- They contain insulating properties, which makes polyester fabrics more difficult to stain.
- It is a breathable and lightweight material, which facilitates thermoregulation.
- Moisture repellent, preventing the growth of fungus, mould, bacteria and odour.
On the other hand, it is a material with a major drawback: it has a high electrostatic charge, making it an uncomfortable material for pillows.
Therefore, we can conclude that the main difference between micro-gel and polyester is that the former, being composed of very fine and very dense fibres, is much softer and more malleable and is not charged with static electricity, which makes micro-gel a material that adapts very well to the head and is more breathable. Polyester, on the other hand, is rougher and not very breathable.
At Nordconfort we use micro-gel fibre for our pillows, duvets and toppers. Thanks to the malleability of the micro-gel, we provide these products with a high capacity to adapt to the body and consequently a higher quality of rest.
